Top Hat Competition
Playmakers Top Hat Competition returns to Hat Fair with an exciting programme of work presented by current undergraduates and recent graduates from University of Winchester.
Experience emerging artists as they test out their work to live audiences.
Come and support University of Winchester students as they perform an exciting line-up of newly devised, entertaining and innovative work as part of our Top Hat Competition.
Abbey Gardens will play host to and champion the emerging artists as they test out their work on live audiences. A panel of industry professionals will help select our winner for Top Hat 2025, which will be announced in Abbey Gardens at 5pm.
The Programme
Performances will take place on Sat 05 Jul 2.35pm – 3.10pm at Abbey Gardens.

Midnight Hags
Agnes of God
A group of performers showing a movement theatre performance inspired by the play Agnes of God.
A powerful play and performance visually questioning the meanings of 'good' and 'evil', and the impact of patriarchy in its different forms, as well as focusing on understanding women's health.

dare to diverge
Bunch of Clowns
This performance is fun and playful, and performed by a 'bunch of clowns' who are having fun!
The underlying message is shown through a variety of ensemble work, and movements to show our perceptions on gender, and what it really means.
Discovering new talent
Created to provide an opportunity for artists from University of Winchester to showcase their work and receive mentoring from Playmakers experienced staff, Top Hat Competition is part of our commitment to discovering the best new talent in our community.
