Small mouse-like creature, or wilful disobedient woman? In Shakespeare's drama, the Shrew was the woman you wouldn't want to marry, the woman who needed to be tamed. But what if we don't want to marry? What if we are happy the way we already are?
We honour the shrewish women who came before us for challenging social norms and expectations, thereby moulding the world we now live in as contemporary women. But there is still a way to go - together, as women.
The Shrewish Women return to Hat Fair 2025, and this time will be expanding their performance by collaborating with The Women's Café at Trinity in hopes of furthering their understanding of what it means to be a shrewish woman.
Together they will take us on a promenade performance of song, dance, and other shrew-like behaviour.
