Winchester's trees get some special care
Nicolas Gengoux, a very special gardener and counsellor to trees that are placed in an urban setting, is visiting Winchester this week as a special guest of the City. He has devoted himself passionately to care for trees all his working life. His aim is to invigorate trees that have become alienated from their roots in the forest and to help them deal with the stresses of urban living, isolation and continuous abuse from passing dogs.
Nicolas Gengoux helps the trees to get in touch with their generic memory of forest life. He uses an innovative mix of traditional methods and advanced technology to remove particulate pollution with a machine called a telluric wave, along side esoteric ritual and recreation the forest environment.
Nicolas arrived on Tuesday 29th June and is identifying trees that need attention. He does not speak much English however he is always happy to educate the public on the processes that he uses and will be accompanied by Peter Parker, a Junior gardener frm Kew who has been dispatched to shadow Nicolas to learn his techniques with a hope to being able to cure sick trees at Kew. Peter will be able to translate on behalf of Nicolas Gengoux.

Hat Fair has published the full programme of shows that will take place on 2nd - 4th July 2010. Check out the Programme page to see a new "page-turner" PDF version - and from Wednesday 23rd June look for the paper copies available in many outlets across Winchester. Many thanks to all at Cradduck Design, Alresford, for their excellent work on our print materials this year.

Well we've had a very busy time since last years' festival, battling recessions (in the Arts, always a pleasure!) seeing many shows, and making some very exciting new friends.
We are now very proudly part of a new European partnership between 4 French and 5 English Street Arts Festivals and Producers, called "ZEPA, Zone European Projects Artistic", snappy eh!
It's going to be a very exciting journey for us all.
Between us we are going to commission, translate, support and present several new Outdoor Shows, projects and exchanges between English and French Outdoor Artists, many will of course be presented at Hat Fair so you can all enjoy the fruits of this fantastic Anglo-Franco partnership

We're very close to finalising this year's programme, and are very excited indeed.
We will reveal all the amazing, exciting and wonderful Artists and Companies who will be coming to play at this year's festival for your viewing pleasure, and believe us it's going to be quite a year.
Keep an eye on the website over the next few weeks.
That's all from us for now, we've got to chase our Artists around the globe and make them sign those contracts asap, so we can get on with preparing the way for this years Festival.

Hat Fair in partnership with The Brooks Centre
Look out for Hat Fair characters also appearing in Brooks Centre on Saturday afternoon
On Saturday afternoon if you happen to be passing through the Brooks Centre in Winchester, don't be surprised to come across some quirky and entertaining characters.
Between 1 and 3 pm some of the Hat Fair artists will be finding some shade and maybe doing some shopping in and around the centre on Middle Brook Street adjacent to the Market.
Pop in for some shopping and you may see some comedy Ballroom dancers, a kangaroo bouncing about or even some mobile fishmongers, who knows.
Thanks to our friends from the centre for opening their doors to the festival.
