Hat Fair is a unique and important event for the community of Winchester. Each year the Hat Fair team strive to bring to the city a culturally significant and all-inclusive programme of arts and entertainment on international scale.
Community is a central part of what we do, bringing professional artists together with the people of Winchester to develop performances and to generate a celebratory atmosphere in which everyone can participate. We are currently working within over a dozen schools and nearly a thousand pupils from Hampshire on our educational programmes.
In addition to community engagement, Hat Fair is recognised as one of the most important development platforms for new work; commissioning and co-commissioning arts projects with some of the world's most significant street arts companies. Over the years, Hat Fair has supported the development of local and UK based companies, including: Bureau of Silly Ideas, Mimbre, Wet Picnic, The World Famous and Periplum. We also maintain a commitment to giving UK audiences the best in international performance and have programmed work by Tuig, Produccionnes Imperdible and Teatro Biuro Podrozy (UK premiere of Pigs, 2005).
Press Launch 2007
Hat Fair will be launching the festival in Winchester on the 7th June. There will be a drinks reception for the media, sponsors and funding organisations with excerpts of featured artists' work and an opening address from Hat Fair's Director of Celebrations, Sian Thomas.
