Schools' Day Procession - From 10.30am

Hat Fair 2007 opens its celebrations with Schools' Day - a children's parade featuring many local schools and artists. Schools have been working with Hat Fair artists to create costumes, music and dance for their part in the procession. Beginning in Abbey Gardens, follow their journey through the town as they open 33rd year of Hat Fair's celebrations.

Each year Hat Fair works with schools and community organisations to develop a wide range of free educational workshops involving the arts. We are committed to developing arts skills with the city's young people and enabling them to share their experience at the festival.

Presentation of Children's Shows and Theatre in Cathedral Green.

Over the years Hat Fair has gathered a national and international reputation for developing and delivering the world's best outdoor theatre to Winchester, and this year is no exception!

This year Hat Fair are delighted to present Dutch theatre company Tuig and their spectacular show Salto Vitale - a poetic strip cartoon that takes us to life's peaks!

We are also extremely excited to be featuring a new piece of work from world-class acrobatic company Mimbre.

MIMBRE - THE BRIDGE

"Clinging between past and future, the bridge has been destroyed and rebuilt a thousand times. A young woman caught in its history; another one desperately needs to get across. But the stubborn bridge-keeper stands in their way and will try to stop them, no matter what...

With humour, daring and exceptional physicality 'The Bridge' reverberates with our battle to defend our place in the world, whilst trying not to destroy it... again..."

Full programme to be announced.

Throughout the Day

As well as all of this, Hat Fair also has a vibrant street market with arts and crafts in the Market Square, a late-night cabaret of performance and music, and the visually stunning Bassline Circus, performing in the North Walls Recreation Grounds.
